Blarney GAA gets the Gold!!! 2018-01-24 15:18:00

Rebel Óg Coaching Benchmarks 2020 provide a template for best practice in coaching,

promoting maximum participation and optimal playing standards in juvenile clubs throughout

Cork city and county.

The programme includes minimum requirements for entry, with subsequent progression to

Bronze, Silver or Gold targets, which clubs would strive to achieve with the assistance of their

local GDA

Over 100 clubs enter each year - in 2016 we achieved the Silver standard and now in 2017

we are delighted to announce we have achieved GOLD standard.

How did we achieve this?

This recognition is down to the hard work and dedication of our club members over the past

few years. Our club coaching and game development structures have gone from strength to

strength and include the following;

Primary Schools Coaching

Primary School Blitz

Parish Leagues in Hurling and Football

Summer Cul Camp

Child and Youth Coaching Plans

Club Beag (Introductory coaching for kids under 5)

Annual Skills Competition

Coaching Workshops

Coaching courses – Foundation Level and Award 1

TY Coaching Course (Blarney Secondary School)

As a result of the hard work and dedication of our coaches, mentors and officers our membership has never been higher with 154 members (up from 115 in 2016) from ages u5- u10 and 87 members (up from 49) from ages u11-u18 in 2017.

Testament to the great work by our coaches and mentors we have had the highest number of representation on Cork & Regional squads in both hurling and football with highlights such as Mark Coleman, Conor Power, Declan Hanlon and Shane Barrett bringing Munster and All Ireland Trophies back to Blarney.
